Hi there. Can I tell you what I dream of doing?
People in conflict-affected regions need immediate access to mental health services. For too long, they have been denied this right to health, which has led to a deterioration of well-being and limited their potential in society. Mental health services need to be expanded rapidly in regions across the world to people who have been devastated by war and violence, and provide them with the support they need.
It's all part of making a better world.
Having mental health interventions implemented early for people in conflict-affected regions will ensure that they are able to appropriately heal from trauma and have the best opportunity at life. This will ensure they are able to fulfil their potential and contribute to society, in turn building a better nation as a whole. It grants them the right to health which helps in every aspect of their lives.
This is really going to help people.
The impact of my vision will be mainly felt by refugees, displaced people, children, women, and the elderly. Major conflict affected regions who would benefit from increased access and availability of mental health services are Yemen, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Nigeria, Venezuela, Syria, and South Sudan, due to the extent of violence and immense, damaging and ongoing impact these conflicts have had.
It's not just about having an idea though - here are the things I know I can achieve:
Increased access to mental health services
Increased availability of mental health services
Ensuring vulnerable people's right to health
I'm going to make this happen, and this is how I know it'll make a difference.
A measure of success will be an increase in the usage of mental health services in these regions, an increase in mental health specialists trained to work in these regions, and an increase in the number of facilities across the regions that are more accessible for these people.
Thanks for listening to me. Will you help me build a better world?
