Hi there. Can I tell you what I dream of doing?

My vision is to protect the lives and uphold the human dignity of migrants and refugees around the world by building on the Global Compact for Migration and Refugees set out by the UNHCR. As the transit country through which all Central and South American migrants travel through, Mexico has a moral obligation to uphold its international commitments.

It's all part of making a better world.

This undertaking aims to redefine the structure by which the international body approaches mass migration and addresses issues posed by this recent crisis. The key areas of interest are a safe passage through transit countries, timely intake processing, implementation of humane detention protocols, ensuring adequate healthcare services as well as integration into the host country.

This is really going to help people.

The beneficiaries of this vision will be those migrants and refugees who in the face of uncertainty, fear, and despair are risking everything for a better life. Another beneficiary will be the host countries who have struggled to respond to this crisis and whose ultimate responsibility it is to protect these migrants and uphold their human dignity.

It's not just about having an idea though - here are the things I know I can achieve:

Increased spending and investment on the public health sector and relief organizations

Improved quality standards in detention facilities.

Decreased number of migrant deaths in temporary custody.

I'm going to make this happen, and this is how I know it'll make a difference.

This would entail quarterly meetings between relief organization and other NGOs as well as government officials to modify existing measures, discuss new initiatives, and evaluate their results. The sessions to include visits to temporary detention facilities and shelters to obtain input from those undergoing refugee and asylum processing well as to appraise the quality of care being provided.

Thanks for listening to me. Will you help me build a better world?
