Hi there. Can I tell you what I dream of doing?
I want to see more members of civil society organisations from conflict-affected countries, engaged meaningfully in policymaking processes that directly affect them.
It's all part of making a better world.
I would envision better, context-specific policies that have better sustainability and flexibility in some of the contexts where conflict and hunger cycles have been ongoing and more adaptive frameworks within strategies and proposals in the humanitarian and development sectors.
This is really going to help people.
The impact of my vision will be mainly felt by those who are in conflict-affected contexts and who have previously been marginalised in decision-making platforms concerning their futures.
It's not just about having an idea though - here are the things I know I can achieve:
Notions of 'expertise' are changed within policymaking platforms and there are less barriers to contribute to them
Marginalised voices and sections of societies are included in decision-making processes
More sustainable, resilient and adaptable frameworks for peacebuilding and development emerge, with strong senses of ownership amongst local/national stakeholders
I'm going to make this happen, and this is how I know it'll make a difference.
Engagement with broader participation should be measured and quantified, with focus on marginalised groups such as women, young people, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+/other identities, ethnic minorities, religious minorities, varied economic groups. Over time, levels of participation in each relevant group should increase and tangible outcomes in policy and frameworks should emerge
Thanks for listening to me. Will you help me build a better world?
