Hi there. Can I tell you what I dream of doing?
I want to make US foreign engagement more ethical, intersectional, and human-focused by inspiring and educating today's youth, the next generation of foreign policy leaders. Youth are not adequately taught about US presence abroad, despite America being the most influential country in the international community. Many flaws in US foreign policy would be solved with educated, progressive youth leaders.
It's all part of making a better world.
I want to achieve a more peaceful world where more US citizens understand and strive for progressive foreign policy. The vision is a world where peace is the norm, and war is the exception. I envision a world with a higher level of foreign policy democratization, where leaders will be accountable for implementing ethical, intersectional, and human-focused policy.
This is really going to help people.
The impact of my vision will be mainly felt by vulnerable populations in conflict zones. Seeing more thoughtful Western engagement in global conflicts will place the well-being of individuals first, rather than particularistic short-term military gains. In a world with less war, there will be fewer refugees, victims of wartime sexual violence, and innocent civilian fatalities.
It's not just about having an idea though - here are the things I know I can achieve:
More young adults are educated and passionate about US foreign engagement.
More people, especially youth, have access points to influence US foreign policy.
US foreign engagement is more humanitarian and culturally sensitive.
I'm going to make this happen, and this is how I know it'll make a difference.
This vision of more ethical, intersectional, and human-focused foreign policy will be realized if the US has a new foreign policy centred on diplomatic engagement and restraint in the use of militarized diplomacy.
Thanks for listening to me. Will you help me build a better world?
