Hi there. Can I tell you what I dream of doing?
I want to increase representation of minorities in the arts, the media, and in leadership positions. We cannot have a fair and equitable society if only one point of view represented. I want to raise up more voices, more experiences, and more backgrounds, so everyone in our society can be heard.
It's all part of making a better world.
This change will ensure parity. It will solidify that differing points of view and experience are as valid as each other. It will also show that we have a responsibility to those in our communities to do not look like we do. Greater representation will decrease inequality in pay, in prosperity, and in progress.
This is really going to help people.
The impact of my vision will be mainly felt by those who feel they have had to hide a part of themselves to make someone else feel more comfortable. For those people who have had to hold back a concern, had their opinion brushed away because it did not match with established consensus, or by those who are rarely even given a seat at the table. If you don't look like everyone else, you're going to benefit.
It's not just about having an idea though - here are the things I know I can achieve:
Increased representation of minorities in leadership positions
Positive representation of minority groups in the media
Representation of minorities as leaders and protagonists in the arts
I'm going to make this happen, and this is how I know it'll make a difference.
We will report on an annual basis on the:
% of leadership positions held by minorities within organizations
Sentiment of media representation of minorities
Number of artistic works that feature at least two minorities in principal roles
Thanks for listening to me. Will you help me build a better world?
