Hi there. Can I tell you what I dream of doing?
I want to ensure we can go further to protect the nutrition of children, by introducing universal free school meals. If we provide free meals in other state intstitutions like hospitals and prisons, why not schools? Children have no choice but to be at school, and whilst there we can ensure that they have at least one balanced and nutritious meal a day. Better nutrition leads to better attainment.
It's all part of making a better world.
I want children to be able to concentrate in class with out feeling hungry, tired or distracted because they have not had any/sufficent food to eat. if schools provide food to all children, then children are free to concentrate on their education and building social skills and connections.
This is really going to help people.
The impact of my vision will be mainly felt by school-age children. However, teacher retention will increase due to them having to deal with less tasking behaviour brought about through hunger. Parents will benefit from not having to struggle to provide lunch for their children during school days.
It's not just about having an idea though - here are the things I know I can achieve:
All children are assured of one hot nutritious meal a day
attainment levels increase accross different demographics and geographies
Teachers mark an improvement in student behaviour during school hours due to tackling hunger
I'm going to make this happen, and this is how I know it'll make a difference.
From the annual grade results, teacher retention stats, sample surveys of parents and students, and a survey of teachers through the teachers unions
Thanks for listening to me. Will you help me build a better world?
