Hi there. Can I tell you what I dream of doing?
I want to draw attention to the importance of having more than one form of a standardised assessment, one that recognises and encourages individual uniqueness and giftings.
It's all part of making a better world.
I hope to influence society to understand the unique talent of seemingly disadvantaged students through a more accommodating mode of assessment that will encourage inner strength for providing solutions, curb examination malpractice and grossly reduce unemployment.
This is really going to help people.
The impact of my vision will be mainly felt by disadvantaged students, their teachers who know their work, young people whose esteem have been trampled on by unfair assessments and sectors in the society that have had cope with workers who were qualified only on paper.
It's not just about having an idea though - here are the things I know I can achieve:
Stories of students who excel at their areas of strength while they continue to work on their weak areas
A massive decline in the number of students who cheat or engage in malpractice
More young people who dropped out of school because they were not coping see a reason to come back to school and try again knowing that can build their strengths while they work on weak areas
I'm going to make this happen, and this is how I know it'll make a difference.
I will know when there is a mindset shift and change of discourse in matters relating to Standardised assessment, criteria for employment and admissions etc., and when a new assessment platform that will support the existing one in recognising and encouraging unique abilities is created.
Thanks for listening to me. Will you help me build a better world?
