Hi there. Can I tell you what I dream of doing?
I want to create a generation that is fully aware of the existence of human rights. A society that knows when the government or any person/authority in power has violated a right that ought not to be violated under any circumstances. When a society is fully aware of this, human rights principles need not be continuously subjected to the awareness that at most times does not achieve the intended purpose.
It's all part of making a better world.
I want to achieve a goal where society does not have to be told that their human rights have been violated. But one that knows when such right has been violated and the measures/actions that need to be taken to mitigate such violation. Literally helping the people to be independent in terms of standing up for their rights and especially socio-economic rights.
This is really going to help people.
The impact of my vision will be mainly felt by the society at large but more importantly, those that are in marginalized areas where the government seems to be aware of their existence only during the electioneering period Also, school-going children will benefit the most as they will learn at a young age the existence of human rights and the obligation of governments to protect and not violate them.
It's not just about having an idea though - here are the things I know I can achieve:
A more educated generation in terms of human rights
Reduction in human rights violations
Pressure on governments to protect rights
I'm going to make this happen, and this is how I know it'll make a difference.
Through the continued and increased fight for human rights redressed, government action to promote rights further, increased discussions about human rights in schools.
Thanks for listening to me. Will you help me build a better world?
