Hi there. Can I tell you what I dream of doing?
I want to contribute to a world where fundamental needs and rights are recognized and where there are less inequalities in terms of opportunities to meet them, with particular reference to migrants and host communities.
It's all part of making a better world.
The world is less prone to violent conflict and more aware of collective endeavours for achieving common goals.
This is really going to help people.
The impact of my vision will be mainly felt by policy makers, but also the media and civil society at large, since the vision of a more egalitarian world is not endorsed by everyone, especially those who stress the relevance of merit above all. Inequalities must be tacked both within a community and between communities. This will positively impact on irregular migration and on global safety.
It's not just about having an idea though - here are the things I know I can achieve:
Equal welfare measures for citizens and migrants
Full citizenship rights to those who are born in a country and who can show a basic, cultural integration, starting from the language (ius culturae)
I'm going to make this happen, and this is how I know it'll make a difference.
Welfare services are available to migrants: healthcare, education, support in finding employment.
Migrants' children are able to apply for citizenship, based on clear, basic indicators of cultural integration.
The number of people who supports mitigating the divide between migrants and host communities increases.
Thanks for listening to me. Will you help me build a better world?
