Hi there. Can I tell you what I dream of doing?
I want to broaden political education in the UK in order to encourage young people to take ownership of their power within a democracy and encourage a greater variety of individuals to be active in politics. I hope that education which focuses on how a democracy works and the importance of inclusion will prevent polarisation and divides within a nation.
It's all part of making a better world.
With these changes I hope that young people will feel less daunted and alienated by politics and vote in greater numbers. The newest generation of voters will be able to work together to bring changes rather than feel dis-empowered. There will be a greater dialogue between sides and a more empathetic political environment which is more representative of the country.
This is really going to help people.
The impact of my vision will be mainly felt by up and coming generations of voters who will be better educated about politics but this will lead to a society and voter base who are more invested in and better represented by their democracy.
It's not just about having an idea though - here are the things I know I can achieve:
Higher youth voter turnout.
A more nuanced and empathetic dialogue between political opponents.
A more diverse group of MPs and civil servants.
I'm going to make this happen, and this is how I know it'll make a difference.
Seeing political education on the curriculum, measuring voter turnout for under 25s and measuring the percentage of MPs and civil servants from various backgrounds.
Thanks for listening to me. Will you help me build a better world?
