Hi there. Can I tell you what I dream of doing?
I'd like to see the world do away with single use plastic as it fuels the threat to aquatic life by microplastics, greenhouse gas emissions and toxic bioactive chemicals release into the ecosystem.
Projections are that in the nearest future this will become the world's leading source of green house gases and global warming.
To secure our ecosystem, we need to act now and act right!
It's all part of making a better world.
I'd like to see less environment pollution from single use plastic, especially plastic bags.
My goal is a 30 percent reduction in the use of these in my locale two years from now and in the immediate, better waste segregation, collection and disposal.
I'd like to see greater awareness and involvement of the larger society in matters relating to the conservation of our ecosystem.
This is really going to help people.
The impact of my vision will be mainly felt by everyone through a stepwise reduction in the adverse effects of surface and water body pollution such as flooding, respiratory illnesses, threat to aquatic life and global warming.
Disposal, recycling activities and production of alternatives will add new eco-friendly jobs.
Funds saved by Governments and agencies will be better used for other competing needs.
It's not just about having an idea though - here are the things I know I can achieve:
Increased awareness and conscious action at the individual and societal level towards adoption of alternatives to single use plastics, better waste segregation, disposal and recycling.
A progressive reduction in indiscriminate plastic disposal with attendant decline in surface and water body pollution, blocked drainages, stagnant water pools and open burning of plastics waste.
Legislation to incentivise alternatives to single use plastics production and use as well as recycling.
I'm going to make this happen, and this is how I know it'll make a difference.
Success will be indicated by-
-The society assuming ownership of the action plan and executes it while participating in advocacy to embed this into our legal and administrative framework.
Increased commitment and effective action to stop further plastic pollution and clean up of polluted sites.
-Continued political commitment to adopt and adapt eco-friendly policy and programmes.
Thanks for listening to me. Will you help me build a better world?
