Hi there. Can I tell you what I dream of doing?
I’d like to see the world do away with non-recyclable plastic as it’s use fuels the threat to aquatic life by microplastics and the high greenhouse gases and toxic bioactive chemicals release into the ecosystem.
Projections are that in the nearest future this will become the world’s leading source of greenhouse gases and global warming.
To secure our ecosystem, we need to act now and act right.
It's all part of making a better world.
I’d like to see less environmental pollution from single use plastic, especially plastic bags.
My goal is a 30 percent reduction in the use of these in my locale two years from now and in the immediate, better plastic waste segregation, collection and disposal.
I’d also like to see greater awareness and involvement of the larger society in matters relating to the conservation of our ecosystem.
This is really going to help people.
Everyone will benefit from a step wise reduction in the adverse effect of surface and water body pollution such as flooding , respiratory illnesses, threat to aquatic life and global warming.
Disposal, recycling activities and production of alternatives will add new eco-friendly jobs.
Funds saved by Governments an agencies from reduced pollution will be better utilized to meet other competing needs.
It's not just about having an idea though - here are the things I know I can achieve:
Increased awareness and conscious action at the individual and societal level towards the adoption of eco-friendly options to single use plastics, better waste segregation , disposal and recycliby.
A progressive reduction in indiscriminate plastic disposal with attendant decline in surface and water body pollution, blocked drainage, flood, stagnant water pools and open burning of plastics waste.
Legislation to incentivise alternative to single use plastics production and use as well as it’s recycling.
Continued political commitment to eco-friendly policies and programmes.
I'm going to make this happen, and this is how I know it'll make a difference.
The following will indicate success-
Society assumes ownership of this action plan and executes it while participating in advocacy for this to be embedded into our legal and administrative framework.
Increased commitment and effective action to stop further pollution by plastic waste and clean up polluted sites.
Continued political commitment to adopt and adapt eco-friendly policies and programmes.
Thanks for listening to me. Will you help me build a better world?
