Hi there. Can I tell you what I dream of doing?
Bringing people from traditionally opposed or perceived-to-be-at-conflict backgrounds and groups through play, engagement and sharing in order to break down barriers, foster friendship and promote peace. Examples would be intercultural nights in public spaces where different groups can share food, drink, games and quirks of their culture.
It's all part of making a better world.
Community spirit - a start will have been made towards better integration of diverse groups based on face to face sharing rather than political ideology.
This is really going to help people.
The impact of my vision will be felt both by those with strong views on minority groups, and those minority groups themselves; typically those at disadvantage and those feeling frustrated.
It's not just about having an idea though - here are the things I know I can achieve:
A series of intercultural exchanges are held
Friendships made at these events continue outside of them
Support and validation from third and public sector partners
I'm going to make this happen, and this is how I know it'll make a difference.
The intercultural exchange events become self-sustaining and a corps of volunteers informally emerges to continue them. Community spirit that can be seen and felt by attendees, and that could be demonstrated through before-and-after quantitative surveys.
Thanks for listening to me. Will you help me build a better world?
